In 1973 he started Jim Early & Associates–a full-service advertising and public relations firm. Unlike most agencies, Early was proud to handle all of the production in house–print design, photography, radio and television. In, 1996 he received the Knoxville Advertising Federation’s highest honor, the Silver Medal Award, for his contributions to the advertising industry and he’s a Hall of Fame member. Early was honored for his twenty-five-year run as director of local promotion for Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey Circus in 2000. He was presented a bronze Ringmaster Hat signifying him as “Honorary Ringmaster for Life” an award he shares only with Rudy Giuliani. He played a key role in bringing American Honda’s “Honda Hoot” to Knoxville and directed it’s PR efforts. His commitment and love of community were quite evident in the many charitable efforts in which he took part and through his involvement in a number of local civic clubs. He served on the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Rehab Center board for over twenty years and was heavily involved with the American Heart Association. Jim remained involved in the business he founded until his passing in 2005.
